Job description

Summary: The Manager of Training and Standards is responsible for the coordination, implementation, and development of the Flight Operations Department training program in compliance with 14 CFR Part 135, company policies, procedures, and standards. The Manager of Training will have a thorough knowledge of all FAA training related regulations and industry standards to coordinate, implement, design and administer required flight operations training and standards programs.

Duties & Responsibilities:

1. Responsible for managing the Company’s Part 135 Training Programs.

2. Manages, monitors and measures safety performance of all Ultimate Jet instructors and Check Pilots employed by Part 142 Training Centers through annual audits.

3. Will not implement any training under 14 CFR Part 135 Subpart H until FAA initial and final approval, as appropriate, is obtained.

4. Will provide and keep current for each aircraft type used and, if applicable, the variations within the aircraft type, appropriate training material, examinations, forms, instructions, and procedures for use in conducting the training and checks required by CFR 135.323(a)(3).

5. Manages operations specification A031 compliance. OPSPEC A031, GOM

6. Ensures all training program providers have current Ultimate Jet manuals and publications; Current Training Program, GOM and current operations specifications.

7. Develops, conducts, and maintains classroom training, coordinates schedules, and audits with company training including Company Initial Training Program (new hire pilot indoctrination), Recurrent Training Program (annually); CRM; Customer Service; Hazardous Material; Operational Control Personnel.

8. Manages the training budget.

9. Manages all crewmember training records.

10. Evaluates available training resources and advises management concerning training requirements, methods, and sources.

11. Responsible for audits of and schedule coordination with training vendors.

12. Ensures training next-due reports and a schedule of required training are monitored.

13. Manages the training required for all employees, as needed, in hazardous material handling, customer service, ERP, first aid & AED, operational control, and security.

14. Oversee needs and arrangement of suitable training solutions for employees.

15. Ensure all current and future training content and materials meet FAA and DOT requirements, regulations, and FAA acceptance, as necessary.

16. Ensures coordination of the roles of internal departments during training class.

17. Implement effective methods to educate staff and enhance performance.

18. Review follow up studies of all completed training to evaluate and measure results and modify programs as needed.

19. Develop and revise standards to ensure a thorough understanding of company operating rules by all Ultimate Jet Flight Crewmembers.

20. Assist in review, standardization, and implementation of company manuals, checklists, and Standard Operating Procedures.

21. Conduct meetings with Check Airmen, Fleet Captains, and Chief Pilots for the development and revision of operating standards and procedures.

22. Monitor trends in ASAP, LOSA and FOQUA reports and implement policy and procedure changes based on findings.

23. Oversee observation of company and 142 training center instructors and check airmen to ensure SOP’s are being trained.

24. Monitor daily legality and crew qualification.

25. Demonstrate Ultimate Jet’s core values and behave as “a CEO” in all interactions.

26. Other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • Excellent verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills to effectively interact with all levels of the company and its customers
  • Excellent presentation skills · Familiarity with general aviation flight operations and Flight Operation System (FOS)
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite · Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
  • Ability to handle and maintain the confidentiality of sensitive information
  • Ability to multi-task and complete work within assigned timelines under minimal supervision
  • Ability to exercise independent judgment, discretion, and initiative
  • Self-motivated and willingness to take initiative to research and resolve problems
  • Work hours will vary and may include evenings and weekends
  • Ability to travel to out-of-state sites as needed
  • Operate office equipment as needed

Education and Work Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in education or relevant field or Flight and Ground Instructor Ratings
  • At least two years previous training experience preferred
  • A combination of training, education and experience equivalent to the standards listed above that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities
  • ATP and Turbine Jet experience required; check airmen experience preferred
  • Previous aviation industry experience: in-depth CFR 121 or 135 experience/knowledge preferred
